This is an itinerary from a base plan to shoot out upcoming IMAX project in Mongolia. Mongolia is fast becoming a destination for the adventure traveler.  The area offers expansive vistas, ecological variety and few few tourists.  The trip has been set to involve you in all aspects of this countries culture and environment.  Mongolia has fewer actual roads than any other nation.  Travel here is by horse, camel, foot, or 4x4.

OEXs involvement in the IMAX Mongolia project allows for you to go to places not open to other groups and to meet the real people involved in the ceremonies and dinosaur digs and....

Mongolia

 

Day 1- Arrive in Country

  • Arrive Ulaanbaatar; overnight at hotel

Day 2- Prep day and sites

  • Prepare for the journey. Overnight at hotel

Day 3- To Gobi and Private Ger Lodge

  • Fly to the Gobi, meet vehicles, drive to Yol valley - picnic lunch,
    hiking opportunities; in the evening drive to Bulagtai - 100 km – and overnight at
    OEX’s exclusive use Luxury Lodge Ger camp

Day 4 - Dunes and Uujim

  • Drive to Hongoryn Els - 200 km, driving through Uujim across the
    dunes, overnight in local ger camp

Day 5- Flaming Cliffs, Private site visit of Paleontology

  • Explore the dunes, hike, or ride camels. This afternoon, drive back to Bulagtai, then
    drive out to Flaming Cliffs for exploration, dinner, and sunset.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 6 - Drive in the Steppes

  • Drive to Ongyn Hiid, via Mushgai Hudag area, Overnight at Lodge ger camp - 200 km

Day 7 - Rivers and Horses, Hike

  • Drive to Kharakhorum; stop for Horse ceremony. Overnight in ger camp - 250 km

Day 8 - Monestary, Ogii Lake approach drive. Fishing

  • Explore Erdene Zuu monastery grounds, then drive to Ogii lake ger camp - 100 km;
    opportunity to fish and explore the lakeshore. Overnight in ger camp

Day 9 - Fish for Mongolian Monster Trout (if you wish), Hike

  • Drive to Selenge river – 300 km, overnight in tents; opportunity to fish and hike

Day 10 - Steppes to Lake

  • Drive to Lake Hovsgol – 250 km, overnight in local ger camp

Day 11/12 - Kayak, horses, feet and Gers

  • Explore the area on foot, horseback, or kayak. Overnight in gers

Day 13 - Back to Ulaabaatar

  • Drive to Moron for return flight to Ulaanbaatar -140 km. Overnight at hotel

Day 14 - Day in Baatar

  • Full day in Ulaanbaatar for sightseeing, shopping, or visiting museums. Overnight at hotel

Day 15- Departure

 

 

 

 

Vehicles: 

Land Rover 110s 300tdi

All the vehicle are only slightly modified expedition trucks.  

The vehicles used will be turbo diesels, with 31 inch tires.  

All are fitted with snorkels and radios for desert driving are completely expedition ready with GPS, roof racks, winches, etc.
